CLAIMING YOUR BUS PASS IF YOU ARE OVER 60

CHANGES FROM 1^st April 2010

The government is changing the date on which both men and women will become eligible for a bus pass for free travel in England.

From 1^st April 2010, you will have to wait a few months longer to claim your pass when you reach age 60.

Examples of the birth dates and the dates on which you can claim your passes on are given below

Born before 5^th April 1950	claim a pass on your 60^th birthday
Between 6^th April – 5^th May 1950	On 6^th May 2010
6^th May – 5^th June1950	On 6^th July 2010
6^th June - 5^th July 1950	On 6^th September 2010
6^th July - 5^th August 1950	On 6^th November 2010
6^th August - 5^th September1950	On 6^th January 2011
6^th September to 5^th October 1950	On 6^th March 2011

This is part of the governments Pension Equalisation policy, which is aimed at changing the dates on which women can claim their pensions, current at age 60, to age 65, the same date when men receive their pensions.

These changes affect all people in England, and not just those in the Colchester area.

If you have already claimed your pass, you are not affected by these changes
