There was a Chappel and Wakes Colne Parish Council meeting held on Monday 16 October 2006 at the Village Hall.
It was an open meeting attended by councillors from both Parishes. Some members of the public also braved a chilly October evening to be there.
Although the meeting is unable to make resolutions, it provides a forum for both villages to discuss items relevant to them both, before taking the issues back to the individual council meetings for further discussion and decision.
At the recent meeting the following issues were discussed:
1. 30mph roundels and road marking
The Highways Department of Essex County Council has confirmed that 30mph roundels will be painted on to the road surface of the four entrances to the two villages. Although the councils have yet to be informed about dates for the work, it is promised for this financial year.
2. Vehicle Activated Speeding Signs
These signs are available ftom the Highways department, providing the roads meet the relevant criteria. Both Councils have asked for speed surveys to be carried out on the roads where speeding is a major issue. If the roads do not come into the criteria for these signs, there is an option to purchase other speed activated signs for approximately £3000. We will keep you updated on progress.
3. Football Field
Chappel updated Wakes Colne on the progress of the football field. You can find out more at the relevant section of this website.
4. Play Area and Equipment
Chappel updated Wakes Colne on the progress of the replacement of the play equipment. Wakes Colne agreed to apply for grant funding of any shortfall in the project. You can find out more at the relevant section of this website.
5. Affordable Housing
Wakes Colne updated Chappel on the Rural Housing Trust's plans for affordable housing. Although the details are still sketchy, the Trust is looking at the site near the village hall as a possibility for affordable housing. Again, we will keep you posted with updates.
6. Copford and Chappel Community Action Panel
This is being attended by members of each council's Neighbourhood Watch coordinators. Parish Councillors may also attend.
7. Date of Next Meeting
The next Joint Parish Council meeting will take place on Monday 19 February 2007 at 7.30pm.
