Football Field

The Football Field project is to restore the current lumpy, bumpy field into a good playing surface for the village. We want to have somewhere where all sorts of games can be played - football, hockey, cricket etc etc. It's very much a community project, so if you have a team and want somewhere to play, you'll soon be able to. We hope the project will be complete by the beginning of the 2008/09 football season.
The field was purchased thanks to capital grants by Colchester Borough Council and Essex County Council in July 2005 and work has been carried out in full consultation with English Nature, the Environment Agency, Anglia Water, Colchester Borough Council and Chappel’s Millennium Green Trust.
You can keep an eye on the project on these pages.
Latest news: February 2008
The Football Field has been rolled once this winter and the second rolling will happen shortly. We're keeping an eye on the stones and will hand remove any ones which are protruding.
We're in the process of applying for grant funding for a set of goal posts and working with the Football Foundation to ensure they are the right type and quality for the field. Depending on the red tape, we hope to have them installed in time for the summer....
