Parish Field

The Parish Field was gifted to Chappel Parish Council by Reuben Hunt back in the late 1890's and has been owned by the Council ever since.
The Council has been working to restore the allotments and make use of the Parish Field for the community. Thanks to the input of both the River Colne Countryside Project and Essex Biodiversity we are putting together plans to create a community orchard of local rare and endangered fruit trees. This will be an open space for the whole village and the produce grown will be available for all. It will provide vital habitat for wildlife and will go a small way to replacing some of the old orchards which have been grubbed up across Essex and East Anglia.
As part of
this project we hope to finally get the restoration of the allotments
underway. We are seeking quotes to get
this going, but getting contractors to respond to our requests has proved
somewhat difficult.
Again we will update
you as soon as we have more news. We will be holding a public meeting to go through our
plans in due course, so look out for notices on the Village notice board and on
the website.
